Japanese Architecutre - Munamon Gate

A traditional style munamon gate (棟門) with earthen walls, wooden door, stone steps, wooden roof, and small lattice window for a private residential house.

The roof is frequently covered with cypress bark shingles (hiwadabuki 桧皮葺).

Another feature of this type of gate is the mud-plastered walls on each side of the gate entrance.
