Kurima Island

  • Was in a rush to take this shot. The tour bus make a 10-minute stop for others to have smoke break or buy some cheap souvenirs. I ran down to the beach and frantically tooks shots as much as possible could in such a way that they would not have been too boring or uninspirational.
  • Kuroma Ohashi Bridge from Miyako Island to Kurima Island in Okinawa.
  • ISO 200 at ƒ/16 for 1/400 sec.

  • These flowers were growing all over the place and created an great contrast between the white/beige sands and tropic green waters.
  • Known by several names: coast morning glory, seaside morning glory, beach morning glory. An introduced species, growing like a weed on a beach of Kurima Island in Okinawa. Japanese call it グンバイヒルガオの花 (gunbai-hirugao-no-hana), but the local Okinawans call it ハマカンダー (hamakandaa) or アミフィーバナ (amifibana).
  • ISO 100 at ƒ/10 for 1/400 sec.

  • I wish the waves were just a bit bigger! I love it when waves building up and crash down in front of themselves. This was the best I could do with what little time I had. I am pleased with how the colors came out.
  • Blues, greens, and turqoise waves lapping the shores of Miyakojima Island in Okinawa with absolutely no people or tourists! Just me and the beautiful ocean!
  • ISO 100 at ƒ/7.1 for 1/1000 sec.

  • This shot would have been much better if I were able to catch a blue sky and the blue ocean in the background. It was a rainy and overcast day, so wasn't able to catch the colors I wanted.
  • Toriike Pond on Shimojijima Island used to be an underwater cave that was only accessible via the open sea until the ceiling was collapsed by a tsunami wave in the 18th century
  • ISO 100 at ƒ/8 for 1/100 sec.
